What can go wrong — and how we avoid it
Duplicate barcodes
We flag duplicates before import, so a scan never rings the wrong bag.
Messy sizes
Sizes typed differently (“30lb”, “30 lb”) are cleaned into one variation list.
Card reader lock-in
Readers tied to another vendor’s software will not move; we help you choose a processor setup first.
Stock drift on switch day
Count fast-moving lines the evening before; import the counted quantities.
Switching questions
How do I switch pet store POS systems without losing data?
Export products, customers and (if possible) loyalty balances from your current POS as CSV files, import them into GetPetStorePOS, check the result, then run both systems side by side for a day before you stop the old one. Our onboarding team does the import for free.
What does switching cost?
Nothing. Data import help is free on every plan, in every country.
Which systems can I switch from?
Any system that exports CSV or Excel: Square, Lightspeed, Shopify, Clover, QuickBooks POS, pet-specific POS systems and spreadsheets.
Can I bring my customers’ pets?
Yes, if your old system stored them. Pet names, breeds and notes can be imported into pet profile fields; otherwise add them as regulars come in.
Will loyalty balances come across?
Yes. Import each customer’s points balance so nobody loses their reward.
What about open gift cards and store credit?
Import store credit as customer balances. Open gift cards can be recorded as a custom payment type and honoured at the register.
How long does it take?
A clean product file of a few thousand items imports in about 30 minutes. With checking, most stores switch within one working day.
Can I keep my hardware?
Usually. Standard receipt printers, barcode scanners, label printers and cash drawers work. Card readers locked to another vendor’s software do not.
What happens to my old sales history?
Keep the export from your old system for records and tax. Most stores start fresh sales history on the switch date.
