Pet store POS hardware: use what you have

The software runs in a browser, so most standard printers, scanners and drawers just work. We don’t sell hardware — we tell you what works and help set it up.

Seven pieces, one by one

Brand names are examples of compatible kinds, not endorsements or products we sell.

Computer or tablet

Any up-to-date Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, Android tablet or iPad with a modern browser.

Tip: A 10–13 inch tablet on a stand is plenty for one register; use a laptop in the back office.

Works with: Any brand

Receipt printer

80 mm thermal receipt printers over USB or network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi). Browser printing works with any printer your computer can use.

Tip: Network printers let several registers share one printer.

Works with: Epson, Star Micronics and similar ESC/POS printers

Barcode scanner

USB or Bluetooth scanners that act as a keyboard (HID). 2D scanners read damaged bag barcodes better.

Tip: A cordless scanner reaches the 40 lb bags on the bottom of the trolley.

Works with: Zebra, Honeywell, Datalogic and similar

Label printer

Thermal label printers for barcode and shelf labels; the software prints label sheets you design.

Tip: Use direct thermal labels for shelf edges, thermal-transfer for items that sit for months.

Works with: Zebra, Brother, DYMO and similar

Cash drawer

Printer-driven cash drawers (RJ11/RJ12) that open when the receipt prints.

Tip: Check the drawer matches your printer’s kick connector.

Works with: Any printer-driven drawer

Scale (loose seed, treats)

Weighed items can be priced by weight; enter the weight or use a compatible scale/label setup.

Tip: For bulk bins, print price-embedded barcode labels at the scale.

Works with: Ask us on a demo

Card terminal

A terminal from your own processor or acquirer. The register records the card tender; the terminal takes the payment.

Tip: Keep your current processor if the rate is good.

Hardware questions

What hardware does a pet store POS need?

A computer or tablet, a receipt printer, a barcode scanner and a cash drawer. Add a label printer for shelf and barcode labels, a scale if you sell loose seed or treats, and a card terminal from your processor.

Do you sell hardware?

No. Buy from any supplier you trust; we tell you what works and help you set it up.

Can I use my existing printer and scanner?

Usually yes. Standard USB or network receipt printers and keyboard-style barcode scanners work.

Does it work on an iPad?

Yes, in Safari. Printing from an iPad works best with a network receipt printer.

Which card readers work?

Any terminal from your own processor or acquirer, used alongside the register. Readers locked to another POS vendor’s software will not work.

Can I print barcode labels?

Yes, on a label printer, with product name, price and barcode.

What about power cuts?

Keep the register, printer and router on a small UPS — common practice in Pakistan and wise everywhere — and a mobile hotspot as backup internet.

How much should I budget?

Many stores already own the basics. If not, a tablet, thermal printer, scanner and drawer typically cost a few hundred dollars (or local equivalent) from mainstream suppliers.
